A. General information
Data protection at Messe Frankfurt
Visitors to the Messe Frankfurt Group internet portal can access many of the information offered there
without registering. On subsequent pages, however, it is often necessary for you to enter companyrelated
or personal data, so we can make an offer for the services required or send you information
about our events.It is naturally our duty to ensure your data is secure in our system, according to the
regulations of the German data protection Act (BDSG). We believe you should be able to rely on your
data being handled in a responsible and confidential way. Our data-protection concept also
incorporates contractors who might need your data to carry out an order to your complete satisfaction.
It is not our aim to use or pass on personal data without permission and for purposes other than those
stated at the time the data was collected.
We do not compile personal user profiles. If possible, we use 'session cookies' to optimise the
communication times and to statistically analyse the ways in which our internet presentation is used.
Your computer automatically deletes these cookies when you close your browser.
In connection with the placement of advertisements, our contract advertising and market research
partners will, from time to time, place temporary cookies on your computer or retrieve cookies already
stored. Only non-personal data will be harvested for this purpose. You can prevent these cookies
from being saved by changing the browser settings on your computer to block placing cookies.
Some of our web sites have links to the internet sites of other suppliers. In view of the fact that we
have no responsibility for these sites, we recommend that you read the information about data

B. Information about special internet applications
Data protection in connection with orders
By using our online ordering system, you approve the data you provided being stored and used by
Messe Frankfurt Group and its contracting partners for the following purposes:
Transfer of (service) offers, order processing, realization of services, personalization of badges,
delivery of Messe Frankfurt Group information.
If you order admission tickets also for third parties, we assume that you are authorized to pass on their
data for attendee registration and the above mentioned purposes.
To ensure the secure transmission of your data, encrypting systems are used so that the
communication between your browser and our order system is illegible for any other participants on
the internet.
If you contact us from outside Germany, we transmit your data for further handling to our responsible
representative via a confidential route. The direct contact to the respective representative for your

4. Determining the purpose of collecting, processing or utilizing the data
The Company’s objective is to promote the economy by holding trade fairs and exhibitions in Germany
and abroad; by holding events or conducting congresses and conferences; and by conducting all
activities relating to the trade fair, exhibition, congress and conference business.
To achieve this objective, the Company has fair and exhibition facilities, as well as congress and
conference rooms, which are used for events or rented out for a reasonable fee.
The Company is also entitled to hold events of a sporting, cultural or other nature on its premises or to
hire out its facilities for such purposes.
Data is collected, processed and utilized in order to achieve the objectives stated above.
5. Description of the groups of people concerned and the related data or data categories
Per group of people the following data is collected, processed and used in pursuit of the objectives
mentioned in section 4:

At events open to the general public or trade fairs with public days personnel data of visitors (basically
name, address and communication data) can only be collected subject to the explicit consent of visitors. The video surveillance at the Exhibition Centre is used to control the flow of traffic / visitors
and for security purposes.
Additionally, personnel data relating to employees, applicants and pensioners are used for internal
communication, support and accounting purposes.
6. Recipients or categories of recipients to whom information can be transmitted
Public authorities, if statutory regulations of prime importance exist, external contractors (e.g., service
providers) pursuant to Article 11 of the German Federal Data Protection Act, group companies,
responsible foreign representatives, in a certain extent exhibitors and internal departments – all in
order to achieve the objectives mentioned in section 4.
7. Legal periods for blocking / deleting data
German legislators have stipulated many different obligations and periods for retaining data. When
these periods have expired, the data concerned is deleted as a matter of routine. If data is not affected
by legislation, it is deleted as soon as the objectives mentioned in 4. have ceased to exist. To respect
an objection against the use of personnel data for marketing purposes at any time the company has to
store them in a separate list of blocked information.
8. Supplying data to countries outside the EU (“third countries”)
To fulfill contractual objectives or to conduct pre-contractual measures with potential or exhibiting
companies, as well as with potential or event attending companies from third countries, the transfer of
data to the responsible foreign representative is generally as essential as it is for the business within
the EU. To this end, the corresponding data mentioned in section 5 are provided to the responsible
foreign representative. The name of a representative of a visiting company is only transmitted if there
is no objection against it.
The registered data of a fair visiting company whose representative established contact with an
exhibitor, can be transferred to this exhibitor when approved expressively by the visitor. This applies
for all visiting companies from Germany, the EU or from other (“third”) countries.
